Betula Jacquemontii Trinity College Options Explained

120-180cm: 2-3 Year tree in a 5-7 Litre pot.
150-200cm: 2-3-year-old tree in a 5-12 litre pot. Usually Half Standard or feathered. If feathered can be repruned to be Half Standard.
180-240cm: 2-4 year old tree in a 12-20L pot, Half Standard.
350+cm: 5-7 year old tree in a 25-45L pot, Half Standard.
Multistem: 180-240cm, 2-4 year old tree, 12-15L pot.

Betula Trinity College is a good new Jacquemontii birch variety with a gleaming white trunk from an early age. Trinity College is quite an upright tree, graceful and light in form. A good choice of tree for a smaller garden as this tree will reach a height of up to 6 metres (20 foot) after 10 years.

Trinity College is supplied at a height of between 1.2 and 2.4 metres in a 5-15 litre container for year-round planting and better results than from either bare-root or rootballed stock.

We receive some requests asking for straight stems with no knobs, bulges or bent bits at the base of the tree. As the tree is grafted onto different roots to improve the quality of the tree, this is not possible. Mother Nature is a hard-faced, stubborn and willful entity that we have little or no effect over despite our best efforts.

If we are out of stock of Trinity College then Betula Edinburgh is almost identical. The only difference we could find was Trinity College may have white bark a little sooner.

What Our Customers Are Saying About Our Trinity College Trees
Evening Alan, Received my three Betula Trinity College Birch trees today. Very pleased with them, a good height and they look very healthy. Kind Regards,L. Worth. 0821

Hi Alan, Tree arrived in perfect condition on the expected date, thanks. Anne 0821

Hello General Dogsbody, It’s Old Fart (aka Mike) here with an update on my recent purchase. Let’s get a few things straight, right from the off, your terminology leaves me confused. You repeatedly refer to my tree, when it fact due to its current state of development, it is quite plainly a treelet! Mines called Bert or for a little while yet Bertie. Bertie arrived in fine shape suffering little from his trip. Unfortunately the tale takes a downward spiral from that point. He was purchased to join two of his kinfolk, already in the ground, and quite settled. In preparation for his arrival I dug a hole. Except this took on pond like proportions when I dug successively through layers of tarmac, compacted rubble and very compacted dark grey clay. The job completed(??) we had a bit of an August turn in the weather it pi—-d down! Guess what I now have an, unplanned, wildlife pond. So my recently acquired treelet (Bertie) remains unplanted, pot contained, confined, rejected and neglected. Oh only until I workout how to turn my pond into a planting hole In Dreams Old Fart AKA Mike Pond builder of repute 0819

My entire family join me in thanking you again so much for your attention to our concern, we are extremely impressed with the service you have given from the beginning - thank you. Very best wishes, Ann 0417

Ornamental Tree Roots In The Shade e.g. Behind A Fence
It is more important that that foliage (posh term for leaves) receives the sunlight than the roots. So if the canopy of your ornamental tree can sunbathe but the bottom of your tree thinks there has been a nuclear winter then that is ok. You might want to ensure you have good drainage as water and no sun is the start of algae and other such issues.

Early Autumn Leaf Fall
Heat stress, being potted, lack of water, being boxed up for a few days etc can cause early Autumn leaf fall. Once planted, normal service will resume next season.

Do I Need To Stake My Ornamental Tree?
9 out of 10 times the answer will be no, especially if under 200cm tall. However our article on Tree Staking should help guide you.

Climate Change
Climate Change has increased aesthetic foliage issues such as Powdery Mildew, Shothole, Rust, frost damage etc These are not terminal issues and will usually last a season or less. All trees are inspected before being sent out to ensure they are fundamentally healthy and will bounce back.

Planting In The Corner Of A Garden
Air and light is reduced in this location which could promote fungus and bacterial issues. If the corner is of the house and a fence then you also have leeching issues to contend with from cement and wood preservatives. Also when it rains, that area would experience higher water levels so we advise against it unless the plant is very hardy.

Mature Tree Warranty
Once a tree is over 3 years old, the failure rate is considerably less and our Tree Warranty does not cover it at 100%. Please check details.

Water Logged Conditions
Willow, Alder, Birch and Poplar may help lower the water level so long as you do not have permanent standing water e.g. your local diving and sailing club meets on your lawn.
