Brilliantissimum Sycamore AKA Shrimp Leaved Sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus 'Brilliantissimum') Options Explained

150-180cm:
7-12L pot, 2-3 years old, Half Standard.
180-240cm: 12-15L pot, 2-4 years old, Half standard.

A very popular ornamental sycamore, Brilliantissimum has the most amazingly coloured foliage. The colour of the leaves are as follows; initially, the foliage is a gentle light pink colour, this maturing to yellow and finally green. In spring, Brilliantissimum bears small clumps of greeny-yellow flowers. Quite a spreading tree, this tree makes an attractive tree in any garden. In particular, given its final height of 4m (13ft 4in), this tree would be well-suited in a small, sunny garden. From a maintenance angle, this is a slow-growing tree, so its final height will take some time to be attained.

Brilliantissimum is supplied in a pot, which means that the tree has an established root system therefore this tree can be planted any time of the year and with better results than either bare-root or rootballed trees.

This is a grafted ornamental tree which means the main stem of the tree is an Acer Pseudoplatanus and the head is a Brilliantissimum. This gives it a "mophead" or "lolly pop" shape which is considered very ornamental.

Customer Feedback About About Our Brilliantissimum Sycamore Tree

Dear Alan. Many thanks for your very informative email. I have received my Acer from you and it arrived in fine condition thank you, as it is still sitting in it's container ( due to the very high temperature we enjoy in Dorset, or maybe the hard ground due to hard frosts in the mornings!!! ) it has behaved extremely well, no wet marks on the carpet and the postman still continues to call, mainly bills though, so we don't really care if he doesn't. On a more serious note, I think your website is very good the colour photographs are extremely helpful, when I decide to buy another tree I shall log on to Tees Online. Kind regards John Keen. 0316

Ornamental Tree Roots In The Shade e.g. Behind A Fence
It is more important that that foliage (posh term for leaves) receives the sunlight than the roots. So if the canopy of your ornamental tree can sunbathe but the bottom of your tree thinks there has been a nuclear winter then that is ok. You might want to ensure you have good drainage as water and no sun is the start of algae and other such issues.

Early Autumn Leaf Fall
Heat stress, being potted, lack of water, being boxed up for a few days etc can cause early Autumn leaf fall. Once planted, normal service will resume next season.

Do I Need To Stake My Ornamental Tree?
9 out of 10 times the answer will be no, especially if under 200cm tall. However our article on Tree Staking should help guide you.

Climate Change
Climate Change has increased aesthetic foliage issues such as Powdery Mildew, Shothole, Rust, frost damage etc These are not terminal issues and will usually last a season or less. All trees are inspected before being sent out to ensure they are fundamentally healthy and will bounce back.

Planting In The Corner Of A Garden
Air and light is reduced in this location which could promote fungus and bacterial issues. If the corner is of the house and a fence then you also have leeching issues to contend with from cement and wood preservatives. Also when it rains, that area would experience higher water levels so we advise against it unless the plant is very hardy.

Mature Tree Warranty
Once a tree is over 3 years old, the failure rate is considerably less and our Tree Warranty does not cover it at 100%. Please check details.
